Impacts of continuing BC’s e-bike rebate program

This research project is a continuation (Phase 2) of our previous study on British Columbia’s Electric Bicycle Rebate Program. We use similar methods to examine e-bike purchases and usage following a second round of rebates which were distributed in 2025. This investigation allows us to further examine and strengthen the evidence for rebate impacts. Additionally, because the rebates were distributed using the original waitlist from 2023, we will examine how extended time on the waitlist influences e-bike purchases and usage. In particular, we can test hypotheses regarding the likelihood that e-bike rebates induced new (“marginal”) purchases, with implications for cost effectiveness of e-bike rebate programs.
